  • Gentle, natural and effective. Suitable for all animals, young or old.

  • The Pet Blends don't have to be given forever! Usually one or two bottles, given in succession, is enough to improve your pet's behaviour sufficiently. Most owners observe improvement after administering one complete bottle (one bottle per animal).

  • Some animals may need to have a few more bottles, in succession, this depends on the depth or complexity of their problem and, of course, if the correct Pet Blend has been chosen for them. If you need advice on which Pet Blend to choose please use our PET BLEND FINDER>

  • Many animals, particularly dogs, will also benefit from using the Pet Blends alongside professional training techniques plus a good healthy diet, rewards for good behaviour and plenty of exercise.

  • Occasionally some animals may return to their old ways (their unwanted behaviours) over their lifetime. If so another course of Pet Blends can be given. Some animals may benefit from a Personalised Blend - especially if they have complex problems requiring individual attention (see below).

  • For any animals who don't show sufficient improvement from taking their Pet Blend this may be for a number of reasons, for example; the choice of Blend may not be quite correct for that animal’s problem, or the animal may additionally benefit from a change in circumstances, handling, environment, training etc. Furthermore, some animals may instead require a Personalised Blend for their individual problem.

SEPARATION ANXIETY
Separation Anxiety
For Separation Anxiety
Many dogs can become stressed and destructive when apart from their family or owner. To help calm the feelings of separation anxiety give the Comfort Blend daily, in food or treats. More tips on helping to address Separation Anxiety below.

KENNELS, CATTERY
Stay at the Kennels/Cattery
For a stay at the Kennels or Cattery
To help settle your cat or dog into a stay at a cattery or kennels give them the Comfort Blend by adding drops to their food or treats, 3 times daily for up to 10 days prior to their stay. This will help prepare them for the unsettled feelings and anguish of separation anxiety. Remember to give the owners of the kennels/cattery a bottle of Comfort Blend to give to your pet whilst in their care.

BEREAVEMENT IN DOGS, CATS, HORSES, ANIMALS
Bereavement
For Bereavement or loss - Pining
As a pet owner you'll know that animals can feel the anguish of bereavement - just as humans do. We 'grieve' - animals 'pine'. They can become confused and unsettled when they lose a companion, be that an owner or an animal friend. To soothe your pet and to help them accept the loss, and change in situation, give the Comfort Blend daily, in the few weeks following a bereavement.

ADAPTING
Adapting to changes
For Adapting to Changes
Animals can find it difficult to adjust to changes such as a sudden new addition to the family: a new kitten or puppy; a new baby or a new family member. They can feel unsettled by house renovations, when you 'have the builders in' or are doing a big re-decorate! Some can also can find it hard to adjust if their physical ability is reduced because of illness, injury or old age. The Comfort Blend can help to calm the unsettled feelings experienced by a change of any sort.

REHOMING
Rehoming
For Re-homing
Whether it's a horse being sold-on to a new owner, or a rescue dog preparing for a new home, or a cat who has lost its elderly owner and must be re-homed with a new family - all may need help settling into their new environment. Give the Comfort Blend daily, and finish the whole bottle, to help them more easily adjust to their new surroundings.

RESCUE ANIMALS, RSPCA
Rescue Animals
For Rescue Animals
Animals in a Rescue Home fit all the criteria for the Comfort Blend. They may be suffering from Separation anxiety, bereavement and loss, whilst also having to adjust to a strange, unfamiliar environment. To help them settle give drops of Comfort Blend daily and finish the whole bottle - like a course of treatment.
And when they find a new family, don't forget to send them off with a bottle of Comfort Blend to help them settle into their new home! Also, if you have just got a new pet from a rescue home you can help them settle-in by giving them a bottle of Comfort Blend.

"Great and very effective item. Reassuring for my rescue Labrador.
Quick result."

I am writing to tell you how pleased I am with your 'Comfort' Blend for pets. My dog has recently had pups and as well as the 'Relax' Blend (at birth) all the pups were rehomed with a bottle of 'Comfort' [to help with adjusting to new home/owners]. They have all settled into their homes extremely well, and are becoming confident, happy animals - Thank you.

Estelle F, Belgium
We had a dog, 'Grendel', with a multitude of problems, including sensitive skin, nervous aggression, fear of other dogs, demanding, hating adults but adoring babies! ... We had to put her in Kennels for 10 days ...We were told that, while we were away, she didn't pine as much as previously and didn't seem as fazed by the other dogs around her - she has definitely improved in these areas. Grendel has begun to socialise with dogs we meet on walks ...she is calmer and more placid in the home.
G Travis, Norfolk
'Hiss' (the rescue cat) became a new boy after taking the drops and happily went off to his new home. Quite amazing. Thank you so much.
R Anderson, RSPCA Branch Manager
I am writing to you to express my sincere thanks and gratitude for helping my bitch, whom last year suffered what I can only describe as a nervous breakdown, brought on by the loss of her 2 kennel mates and a severe phantom pregnancy, Jordan refused to eat anything and it got to the point where we had to put food through the feeder and literally force feed her. She had given up on life itself. We visited our vet on numerous times, he was at a complete loss as to what to do next medically (there was nothing physically wrong). We carried on like this for 6 months until I stumbled across your website. You sent me some remedies and they have cured my girl. She no longer refuses food, she stands proud with confidence and now she plays - my girl is back to being happy once again. I cannot thank you enough.
T Cherry, Cumbria
Have nearly finished a bottle of comfort pet blend, as my dog has separation anxiety. It is starting to work she is stopping howling as much and is quiet when we return home … I have to say thankyou for your help.
S Todd, Northumberland
'Caesar' was an incredibly timid cat [at the RSPCA rescue centre, Norwich] who had experienced a very limited outlook on life prior to coming to the cattery. He would not eat for days ... he was eventually rehomed but spent most of the day hiding under the duvet and being aggressive to humans, so he was put on 'Comfort' Blend ... within a short period he stopped hiding and would come looking for food and attention. He is now happily settled in his new home.
R Anderson, RSPCA Branch Manager
...I also want to say how impressed I am with your Comfort remedy. One of my dogs (now 10 years old) suffers very bad with separation anxiety and as a last endeavor I decided to try your remedy. He is so improved it is unbelievable and such a relief after all these years of seeing him suffer. Wish I had found you and your remedies years ago and will certainly be recommending you to others. Yours very gratefully,
Marilyn and Clive Crewe, Monmouthshire

'Treacle' who was helped with the Comfort Blend
Something I thought I would never see. Treacle (dog) has been with us since February and has always been quite nervous and too shy to do a lot of things. Although she would let us stroke her she never wanted cuddles or much affection. I found a bottle of creature comforts Comfort Blend flower essence in my cupboard that I brought for one of the other dogs ages ago and never used so I decided to try it on treacle. We have only been using it a few days but she is like a different dog already. Just this evening she jumped up on the sofa and laid down between me and hubby wanting a cuddle, this truly is unbelievable as she didn't have the confidence to before.

Why use  Flower Essences for Animals?

Picture
Anyone who has a pet or works with animals knows that they can suffer with emotional as well as behavioural problems. They can experience a similar range of responses as us, such as fear, rage, jealousy, sadness and anxiety. That is where Flower Essences can gently help.

Flower Essences have been used since the 1930's to help people with their own emotional problems (the most recognizable product being Rescue Remedy TM). However, now Flower Essences are widely used by vets, animal behaviourists, trainers and people with their pets to help promote balanced and well-adjusted behaviour in animals - in a natural way, without the use of chemicals. In orthodox medicine there is little help for animals in this area and the few conventional treatments there are can sometimes leave them with unwanted side effects such as drowsiness. This is where our flower essences are different because they can help to gently soothe an animal without masking their true nature. Our Pet Blends®, made using Flower Essences are specially formulated for use with animals and contain ingredients specially chosen to help address the specific problems unique to animals.

Suitable for animals of all types and ages...

At Creature Comforters UK we have, over the past 25 years, reported an approximate 80% success rate with effectively addressing a wide range of challenging emotional and behavioural problems in animals. Importantly the 'Placebo Effect' is, of course, wholly extraneous with regard to animals. The small number of cases that the remedies are unable to address are usually helped by a change in circumstances/treatment and/or behaviour training. Also Flower Essence therapy can be a good support when used in conjunction with advice from a qualified animal behaviourist or by attending animal training classes - where appropriate. Many animal trainers recommend our products to their clients, especially for those animals who display behaviours which are difficult to solve with training alone.

Flower Essence therapy can also be particularly beneficial for animals that have been traumatised by an event in their past, such as neglect, abuse, bad-handling or inappropriate treatment/training by previous owners. In complex cases such as this we recommend a consultation for a Personalised Blend.

Choosing the right family pet
Key considerations for making the perfect pick

Article by Jessica Brody from Our Best Friends
Pet ownership is a major commitment and there is a lot to consider before taking the leap for the first time. It is important to pick the right kind of pet for your family so that everybody enjoys the experience, as a bad fit becomes a problem for both the animal and the people involved. How do you know what kind of pet will work best for your family?

Will your lifestyle accommodate a pet?
Before you pick a specific type of pet, think about your lifestyle. For example, do you have a big, fenced-in yard or are you in a high-rise rental apartment? Do you have a predictable schedule where you are home regularly or are you out of town and on the go constantly? Do you want an active pet or one that is more mellow and snuggly? Are there any family allergies to consider?

All animals need time with their owners, but some types of pets need more than others. For example, Best Friends explains that puppies take a serious time investment in those early months so they are housebroken and socialized properly. Cats may be somewhat lower-maintenance, but they do still need attention. Rabbits, birds, and ferrets are other popular pet choices, but they also involve a fair amount of work.

Choose a pet that suits your family's needs
Your family may want to ease into pet ownership with something fairly low cost and low maintenance. Mint suggests that hermit crabs, hamsters, guinea pigs, and betta fish all make good  starter pets for families. As you consider different kinds of pets, do some research into their typical lifespan and upkeep so you know what kind of commitment is needed.

Working around family allergies can complicate a pet search. Many dogs and cats shed a lot, causing issues for allergy sufferers and added work in keeping the house clean. However, there are dog and cat breeds work well for families with animal allergies. Portuguese Water Dogs, Bichon Frise, and poodles are dogs worth considering as are Sphynx, Balinese, and Cornish Rex or Devon Rex cats.

If you have young children, you may want to avoid puppies and kittens and go for older pets who have a history of getting along well with little ones, explains Better Homes & Gardens. No one breed is guaranteed to be entirely kid-friendly, but golden retrievers, beagles, labrador retrievers, and bulldogs are often a good fit with the proper training.

Get prepared and plan for fun
Once your family has chosen a pet, there are some preparations that need to be done before they join the family. Training and exercise are essential for dogs in particular and every type of pet will need regular care. Discuss who will be responsible for each pet care task and stock up on supplies like pet food, litter boxes, or crates for dog training.

In most cases, it will not take long for your family's new pet to be ready to play. Cats love to banter with toys and many enjoy chasing a laser pointer light. Dogs will thrive on getting outside regularly for walks and many will be thrilled to play fetch or tug-of-war. If you have a busy schedule and don’t think you’ll able to give your dog adequate exercise or if you just want to be sure they’re getting enough exercise while you’re at work, you might want to look into hiring a dog walker who can come by regularly to take them for a stroll.

Choosing the right pet can be time consuming, but it is important to find a good fit for your family since some types of pets are more labor-intensive to own than others. Take the time to evaluate your options, as careful consideration during the pet selection process can lead to years of companionship once you've welcomed your new family member into your home.

Separation Anxiety TIPS...
HELP FOR SEPARATION ANXIETY ADVICE
We have a number of tips to help pets who suffer form separation anxiety or who become distressed when they are left ‘home alone’ (e.g. while their owner is at work).

It is important to understand that dogs are essentially pack animals and therefore find it distressing to be left alone, in their minds – separated from their pack. For dogs that pine, whine, howl or are destructive when you leave them alone, our desensitization programme can help to give your pet a sense of calm when they are separated from their human family or you; their owner (pack leader). However this programme takes time and effort and, for best results, must be done with consistency, commitment and in conjunction with the the Comfort Blend.

DESENSITISATION PROGRAMME

Throughout this programme administer the Comfort Blend as per instructions (see above).

On day one you should briefly leave the house through the front door (or the usual door you leave through). Stay outside, out of sight/smell/sound for ONE minute. Always make sure your pet sees you leave. Don’t make a fuss of them before leaving, just say: “stay there” (or similar).

When you return DON’T make a fuss of your pet, just give them a quick pat/stroke on the head and carry on with your business as normal. Repeat this 3-4 times per day for 3-6 days (or longer if you’re able).

This is teaching your pet that when you go away you always return soon, and it’s no big deal. Also by not ‘fussing’ your pet or using excited noises upon greeting your pet you’re also not sending the mixed message that your are relieved to be home; back to the “safety” of your pack (your pet) and “away from danger”. This will help your pet to not worry that you are in danger while apart from them.

On day 4-5 start to lengthen your absences by increments of 1-2 minutes so that you are eventually away from the house for approximately 20 minutes in one go. Also, put on your coat when leaving. You should do this for 2-4 days (or longer if you’re able). During this period you should make sure that the house is completely empty of ALL humans while you are out of the house. Remember – DON’T make a fuss of your pet upon returning.

Repeat the absences of 20 minutes several times, over several days. Also leave the radio on at a fairly quiet, yet clearly audible level (we recommend a nice, gentle MOR/talkie station like BBC Radio 2!).

Now the time has come when you have to leave your pet for a much longer period (e.g. while you’re at work).

Many dogs are destructive when left alone because, not only are they distraught, but they are bored. They need to be distracted/occupied. Because of this we advise that you purchase a toy that you can fill with tasty treats (special toys, such as KONGs, for this specific purpose can be bought from our shop). Place a few dried treats inside the toy that will be difficult for the dog to get at. If your pet isn’t interested in the ‘food stuffed toy’ try also smearing some very, very tasty pate (or similar) just inside one of the openings. Only give them this special treat when you have left them alone, don't leave it hanging around the house while you're there.

At this point it is important to mention that we recommend that you never leave bowls of food (that’s usually dried) for your dog to eat from as-and-when they like (unless you have been advised to do so by your vet). We recommend that you feed your dog their main meal once a day (or split into 2 feeds per day). In the natural world one of a dog’s (or their ancestors; wolves) main motivations is hunting for food. Obviously we can’t replicate this with most domesticated animals (or in our society) but we can do our best to imitate this closer by feeding once or twice a day, and not having food ‘on tap’. For a dog the excitement of getting their main meal is not only healthier for their intestines but it also creates an appetite and is therefore healthier for their mindset. Feeding dogs in the way we advise will also make the ‘food stuffed toy’ technique more effective.

So, when you have to leave your dog for a very long period (e.g. while you’re at work), turn on the radio, leave them with the ‘food stuffed toy’ and say a brief “stay there” (or similar). Leave your dog in exactly the same way as you did when you left them for just 1 minute, i.e. don’t be tempted to make an extra fuss of them!

It is also important that your pet has plenty of vigorous exercise every day. They should be walked an absolute minimum of 2 times per day for at least 20 minutes each session. In an ideal world they should be allowed to run ‘off the lead’, if this is safe to do, and they have been trained to ‘come’ (did you know that a Sheepdogs have been specifically bred to run up to 80 miles per day!). It has been shown that if a pet is tired out by exercise then they are less likely to be distressed or suffer from ‘separation anxiety’ when left home alone.

If you have assuredly tried these techniques and finished the bottle of Comfort Blend and your pet is still distressed, we recommend you try our Consultation Service. Our qualified practitioner will prepare a bottle of essences that are specially chosen to help address the specific and individual needs of your pet. Using this service can also help to ‘diagnose’ the root of the problem.

Note: If you have a particularly distressed, neurotic or obsessive dog who is having more difficulty adapting to your absences, we recommend you try also administering the Relax Blend (whilst still giving them the Comfort Blend) to their water supply and to the contents of the ‘food stuffed toy’ whilst you’re away.
